I received an unusual compliment the other day, and it was one that made me realize how important faculty can be in the lives of their students.
A young woman told me that one of her friends chose not to transfer from Point Park, where I currently teach, because of me. She said that the other student had made up her mind at the end of the 2004-2005 academic year that she would begin looking at other schools and other programs. I began teaching at Point Park in the fall of the following year, and with the help of many people I was able to get our students' work on the air as part of an agreement with a local television station. Apparently those opportunities and the excitement I bring to my classes were enough to ensure that this student determined that Point Park was the place for her.
Isn't it interesting how we as faculty can have an effect on people, sometimes in ways we aren't even aware of!
