And speaking of incumbency

Long-time journalist Donald Kirk says the U.S. and the West is wasting its time attempting to negotiate with "Dear Leader".

He might very well be right, but he should acknowledge in his essay that the U.S., the West and South Korea lack the will (not to mention a legitimate motive) to overtly seek the removal of Kim Jong Il. For now, diplomatic pressure will have to do.

For what it's worth, South Korea did raise the rhetorical meter a bit this week, claiming that North Korea was responsible for sinking a South Korean warship, killing 46 people.
